If I was a millionaire, I would hire an assistant to deal with all the day to day chores of life that just seem to get in the way of living. If I could calculate the hours I spend tidying up loose ends, I don't doubt that I would end up with a figure that far exceeded the hours I spend doing more soul stretching activities. Actually if I think about it, reading a book or doing yoga can't take up half as much of my life as things like sorting out my home insurance, cooking, shopping and ironing.
Obviously it doesn't stop at ironing. I can think of a million other things that blight the flow of my days but I'm sure by now you get the gist.
There's so much I would love to do if I had the time to spare. I know I'm not the only person in the world who feels they are not living up to their full potential. Human beings would have so much more time to explore the world and themselves if they were freed from the constraints of society. I'm not suggesting that we all up and do a runner like Christopher McCandless. No one really wants to die alone on a bus in Alaska with only grizzly bears for company, even if it is in pursuit of finding oneself.

Not having lots of money or a team of assistants to cut your way through a buttery existence, it is even more important to find ways to maximise the time and effort that you put into unavoidable 'chores'. Why not find ways to enjoy the things that we would normally endure? I find simple things like lighting a scented candle and putting on radio four whilst I do ironing can make time flow by much faster. I wouldn't advise doing the ironing whilst watching television because a particularly juicy episode of Jeremy Kyle can be distracting (I have burned many an unsightly hole this way). On the other hand you could always give up ironing altogether, renouncing yourself to tight bobbling clothes. I don't know about you but can't see how that would be therapeutic.
Hoovering the house is always complemented with a favourite dance CD. If you don't have a dance CD then singing along to musicals like The Sound of Music or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang works just fine. There is nothing that will perk up your mornings more than swinging your hips round with a vacuum to the sound of Dick Van Dyke or Julie Andrews. Now, if I was a millionaire I think that's one thing that I just wouldn't want to give up.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono says Indonesia and France are "very disappointed" about the continuation of violence in the Gaza Strip despite a recent UN resolution calling for the halt of Israeli attacks against Hamas targets in the area.

After speaking on the phone with France President Nicolas Sarkozy on Saturday, Yudhoyono told a press briefing he and Sarkozy shared the same concerns about the attacks, which continued to claim the lives of innocents.

"We know that the resolution has not been obeyed in the field. Violence still continues, with fatalities mounting. The humanitarian crisis is ongoing there, claiming more women and children," he said.

He said Indonesia's stance was clear: Israel must withdraw its troops from Gaza and end its attacks immediately.

Yudhoyono said he had told Sarkozy it was urgent that the international community launch efforts to ensure the resolution was obeyed by both sides.

He said that if the UN resolution did not stop Israeli attacks and force both sides to agree to a cease-fire, then a clear mechanism should be enforced to assert the resolution.

"Indonesia will seek other action to push for compliance. But if the attacks continue then there should be a new resolution or at least a mechanism that can be agreed to by both sides," Yudhoyono said.

The President said he and Sarkozy had agreed that communication among world leaders should be intensified so that all voices were heard on how to solve the Gaza crisis.

Indonesia has sent a humanitarian aid mission to the Middle East, bringing medicines along with a team of medical doctors amid uncertainty as to whether the team can get into the Gaza Strip and reach the Palestinians in need.

Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Teuku Faizasyah said a team of 15 Indonesians, consisting of officials from the Foreign Affairs and Health ministries, medical doctors from the Medical Emergency Rescue Committee Indonesia (MER-C) and two other NGOs, and some journalists had arrived in Amman, Jordan, and was scheduled to meet with Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas through the help of the Indonesian embassy in the Jordanian capital.

He said the team brought medicines weighing almost two tons and worth Rp 260 million (US$23,636).

"The team has met with Palestinian health minister Fathi Abu Moghli in the Palestinian embassy in Amman and symbolically handed over the medicines and financial aid. It is scheduled to meet later on with Mahmud Abbas," Teuku told The Jakarta Post here Saturday.

According to Teuku, the team was also tasked with examining the best pathway to channel the aid to the Gazans, with Israel strictly monitoring all possible entrances to the isolated, bombarded area.

He said while the aid might be channeled through the Egyptian border or through a Jordanian charity organization having been approved by Israel, the financial aid worth Rp 2 billion was presently still deposited in Indonesia.

"The team is expected to send recommendations to Jakarta as to which way we should transfer the financial aid and what other aid we might also need to send," he said.

MER-C executive secretary Rima Manzanarif said Saturday night that besides an orthopedist and a non-medical worker who have already arrived in Amman with the government-led team, the organization would also send three other volunteers to Gaza, comprising an anesthetic specialist, a general practitioner and a non-medical worker.

She said the teams carried medication and surgery equipment and would buy other necessary equipment in Egypt.

Rima said a number of doctors had also stated their willingness to depart to the conflict area.

Head of Indonesia's National Committee for Palestinians, Suripto, told the Post that he would lead a team on a humanitarian aid mission to Gaza as soon as a pathfinder who had already arrived in Egypt found the best pathway for channeling the aid.

The committee, founded by the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), had managed to collect nearly Rp 2 billion of financial aids from donators and would spend the money in Egypt after first identifying what sort of aid the Gazans actually needed.

Indonesia's Red Cross and the Islamic-based Crescent Star Party are also among those collecting financial aid for Palestine; while a few Muslim organizations, including the Islamic Defenders Front, are reportedly collecting jihadis to be sent to the war zone.

Antara reported that a number of protesters staged rallies Saturday in several cities -- including Yogyakarta, the East Java towns of Malang, Jember and Kediri; Medan in North Sumatra and Tanjung Pinang in the Riau Islands -- condemning Israel for continuing its brutal actions and the United States for supporting them.
